Vancouver’s Youngblood, fronted by the charismatic Alexis Young, have premiered a video for their latest single “Better When You’re Close” via Atwood Magazine. The track was produced by Juno-nominated DJ Sleepy Tom (Diplo, Martin Solveig). It will be featured on the band’s forthcoming EP Fantasy Love, due out this July. The song is now available on DSPs worldwide at this location.
Says Atwood Magazine, “Fueled by romantic obsession, alt-pop anthem ‘Better When You’re Close’ indulges in submission. Ecstasy and euphoria combine in a dazzling, feverish display of critical infatuation.”
Fresh off their two performances at the 2018 Juno Award festivities in Vancouver as part of JUNO Fest and the TD Green Room Series, Youngblood is gearing up for a busy summer. Formed in 2015 as a creative outlet for frontwoman Alexis Young, Youngblood has now received global attention for their dichotomous allure, having spent 2017 extensively touring across markets in Canada, Europe, Australia, the US and India.
Retro-futuristic melodies and siren-like vocals are quintessential to the band’s “intensively lush” arrangements, and their live show is equally infectious, as crowds surrender to their “simultaneously dreamy and vicious” sound, Karen O like frantic energy, and Grace Jones-esque magnetism.
Youngblood’s 2016 debut EP, Feel Alright, features five tracks also produced by DJ Sleepy Tom. The first single and title track “Feel Alright” reached # 6 on the Spotify Viral Chart immediately after its release, with the EP itself currently nearing 1M streams. “Better When You’re Close” will be the lead single off of Youngblood’s new EP Fantasy Love, slated for release this July.
“‘Better When You’re Close’ is about romantic obsession to the point of possession- where you feel like your entire body and mind have been involuntarily taken over by the mere proximity of another person and you’ve lost your sense of self,” explains Alexis Young. “It’s about coming to terms with the realities of putting love and lust on a pedestal, and just how quickly a person can become consumed by infatuation of the highest degree. Crippling, consuming, and it also has a sweet bass line that you can dance to, because why not.” Youngblood will be performing this summer. See below for details:
