Sylvia’s Mistake Prepare for Appearances at Edmonton Fringe Festival

Founded in Montreal in the summer of 2013, folk/alternative band Sylvia’s Mistake is set to take the streets at the 33rd Edmonton International Fringe Theatre Festival, which takes place August 14-24, 2014. Details of the band’s festival schedule can be seen above.

The members of the band, Bradley Murphy (fiddle), Sarah C Louise (accordion, vocals) and Anna Lyon (drums), are known as Subordinates, appointed by Sylvia from beyond the grave to present her memoir. Sylvia lived an interesting life, details of which are the focus of the band’s music. A resident of New York City, Sylvia made a mistake, one that led to her death. The Subordinates serve to warn the audience of Sylvia’s Mistake and to avoid further tragedy. Sylvia serves as a guide for the band’s musical performance, which incorporates theatrics, storytelling, and costumes. Each song, with bases in alternative blues, Cape Breton fiddle, and cabaret folk, describes a particular episode from Sylvia’s life and is influenced, of course, by her ultimate demise.

The band’s debut CD entitled Fiery Creatures, released last May, is currently available for streaming and download here.
