“We’re thrilled about this. Having a legendary player such as Jeff Waters judging and travelling across the country is something I think the bands will really appreciate. It will push them to perform their absolute best, and that’s exactly what we want. A big thanks to Thomas Jensen and Wacken for helping make this project possible.” comments WMBC organizer JJ Tartaglia.
In addition, a video ‘Battle Report’ will be filmed that will follow Jeff Waters judging, travelling and interviewing competing bands/members during Wacken Metal Battle Canada.
Jeff Waters comments:
“Well it looks like I get to have some good metal fun in the next few months! Thanks to the Wacken Battle Canada, and my affiliation with my old German friends who run the mighty Wacken Festival, I will be crossing this fine land of ours soon to judge the many talented bands involved in the “Battle“. This is such an amazing opportunity for Canadian bands and I am honoured to be a part of it! I will also be filming for a “Wacken Battle“ report. Come down to the shows & say “Hi“! Let’s show the world how good our bands are and how much we love our music!”
Canadian metal band ANNIHILATOR is the lifework of guitarist Jeff Waters. ANNIHILATOR is the biggest-selling Canadian heavy metal/thrash metal band in Canadian history with close to 3.5 million units sold.
Founded in 1984, the band took the metal scene by storm with their debut 1989 release “Alice In Hell”, upped the ante with 1990’s “Never, Neverland” and finished off their 3-record deal (Roadrunner Records/Sony/Epic) with “Set The World On Fire”.
While most late-80’s era metal bands disappeared, ANNIHILATOR went on to forge 11 more studio CDs, DVDs and live releases, all consistently selling well and remaining true to the heavy metal cause. Tours & shows with everyone from Judas Priest, Pantera, Rammstein, Iron Maiden, Megadeth, Slayer, plus dozens of headlining tours and festivals around the world have been going on steady since 1989 for this band; no rest as the demand for this band never ends & the love of metal is in this bands’ blood. ANNIHILATOR is touted as one of the best live acts in metal music. High-end musicianship, tight playing and massive energy and fun are what these lads are known for.
Jeff’s guitar playing, songwriting and production skills have been a major influence on countless well-known metal acts and musicians around the world. In fact, countless, successful non-metal acts & musicians cite Waters and Co. as an influence in their careers. He has also been an important member of the Epiphone/Gibson family with his 2nd signature model flying V guitar coming this year, as well as being a staple on the European guitar clinic and music convention scene.
2013 saw the release of the best-selling and most critically acclaimed Annihilator CD in close to 18 years: FEAST. Touring this record took the band (as always) to Europe but also brought huge attendance to a few South American runs… After close to 2 years of touring, ANNIHILATOR are back live in the summer of 2015 to play the Euro-festival circuit, including a night-time slot on the Wacken stage; the 3rd time for the band. The new and 15th studio ANNIHILATOR cd should drop at end of July on UDR Records & the band have already booked a headline Europe tour from Sept. to Nov. 2015.
